Published: 08 Feb 2010

have your say

Surrey County Council leader Dr Andrew Povey will feature on BBC Surrey tomorrow (9 February) to invite listeners to a question time event to have their say on the future of the county.

Dr Povey will be interviewed on 'drive time' by presenter Mark Carter at 5.05pm about the debate that will feature a panel made up of key Surrey public and voluntary sector organisations and the business community. The event, which Carter will host, takes place on the evening of 25 March at Dorking Halls.

Members of the public will have the opportunity to voice their thoughts and concerns on issues including schools, caring for the elderly, waste, protecting the green belt, bus services and anti-social driving and anti-social behaviour. They will be able to quiz panelists from Surrey County Council, the Surrey Police Authority, NHS Surrey, Mole Valley District Council, Business Link and the voluntary sector.

Dr Povey will also take the opportunity to talk about getting more people involved in local democracy through webcasting meetings. The council will webcast a meeting live for the first time tomorrow when newly installed cameras will follow the debate during a Full Council meeting at County Hall. People will be able to see a recorded version which will be available to view within 24 hours.

To book a free place at the question time debate and submit a question go to www.surreycc.gov.uk/haveyoursayevent.

The question time event has been organised by the Surrey Strategic Partnership, the umbrella organisation for Surrey’s public services. It includes the county council, Surrey's 11 borough and district councils, parish and town councils, Surrey Police, the Probation Service, NHS Surrey and the business, faith and voluntary sectors.
